Perhaps you’ve heard, there’s a worldwide pandemic. It affects men and women of all ages from every country. It has devastating health effects. It’s pushing people into separation and isolation. And it’s spreading rapidly.
No, I don’t mean Covid. It’s porn.
Porn Is a Pandemic
Seem like a stretch? Numerous studies indicate that porn has widespread and devastating effects ranging from increased sexual violence to brain shrinkage and porn-induced erectile disfunction (PIED). People are trying to quit porn but they can’t, and experts are recognizing it’s a public health concern of pandemic proportions.
Like Covid, porn use occurs over a wide geographic area and affects a significant portion of the population. Research indicates that nearly 30,000 people are viewing porn every second.
NCOSE reports, “Young children are now exposed to hardcore (mainstream) pornography at an alarming rate, with 27% of older millennials (age 25-30) reporting that they first viewed pornography before puberty. Sixty-four percent of people 13–24 actively seek out pornography weekly or more often.”
Like Covid, porn is a pandemic and it needs to be stopped.
The Porn Business Is Thriving
While many businesses have struggled to survive quarantine, the porn business has thrived. Porn giant Pornhub jumped at the opportunity provided by the global shutdown and offered free 30-day trials to their premium subscription content. By mid-March 2020, Pornhub was boasting a 24% worldwide increase in traffic.
Big porn companies like Pornhub know an opportunity when they see one. But for those struggling to overcome porn addiction, quarantine and isolation have closed off many opportunities for escape. A Reddit forum with over 500,000 members shares these testimonies:
“This corona s*** is killing me. Not the virus but the quarantine. I went to the gym every day and I was very active in my social life but now I have nowhere to go and nothing to do. I relapsed after 24 days.”
“I already relapsed 9 times this month.”
The porn industry is profiting from the loneliness and isolation of millions of people around the world, furthering the damage brought on by porn.
The data for 2020 is still coming in, but the porn pandemic shows no signs of slowing.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for reaching out and asking for help! Are you using Covenant Eyes Screen Accountability? If not, this is a great way to start being accountable to what you do online. If you have a friend or mentor who can use it with you, even better! It can be difficult to tell someone about your struggle with porn, but you will feel so much freer when you do.
I am praying for you!
