When it comes to porn, don’t get distracted by the sex and miss what really drives the industry: money.
Pornography isn’t a back-alley business of repressed artists looking to explore the pleasures of erotica. It is called the porn “industry” for a reason. The men and women at the top of this enterprise are capitalists who not only understand that sex sells, they are also brilliant marketers who know how to sell sex.
Andrew Edmond, president and CEO of Flying Crocodile, a multi-million-dollar porn company, makes the point very clear:
“A lot of people get distracted from the business model by [the sex]. It is just as sophisticated and multilayered as any other market place. We operate just like any Fortune 500 company.”
Like good marketers, porn companies want to attract customers and keep them. Here’s how..

This is an incredible infograph and very motivating to turn from sin and run to God. When the truth is told the light shines, and the darkness hides, but it cannot overcome it because of what Jesus has done. From the very beginning God created the most pure and perfect form of a sexual relationship, one in a covenant relationship with one person. Praise God for his perfect rules and laws and I pray he helps us to keep them!
The reality is that porn does not need marketing. The women are good looking and who are we kidding, the women in Hollywood, who are not doing porn, push sex just as much as the porn industry. When Miley Cyrus changes from Hannah Montana to the super sexual pop singer, this impacts boys and girls more than stumbling across porn on the internet. Plus, I have been to other countries where people are naked in parks and beaches. It is no big deal to them. America is out of control because America makes everything taboo. Then, who are we really kidding, women have used sex to get what they want since the beginning of time. This world is a cruel and suffering place. People struggle and hurt a lot. Porn, drugs, alcohol, sports, movies, TV ….. everything we are addicted to is an escape from this. I also don’t by this nonsense that most porn users are men. You are completely ignoring the fact that the women are the primary ones doing porn. It is not just a few women. It is millions upon millions. On one web page alone, I counted over 1,000 different girls. This was one webpage for one porn site. This does not even count the vast numbers of women sending homemade porn out via cellphones and emails. I am single and I think people are in delusion about what is really going on in society.
Perhaps porn in general does not need marketing, but in the highly competitive environment of pornography, marketing is needed for individual companies.
I’m not sure I’m following your reasoning: because women are in porn, men can’t be the primary users of porn? I don’t follow.
As far as gender demographics go, to say a quarter of porn users are women are not to say very view women view porn—since there are billions of people on the planet, 25% is a lot of people. What about the 25%-stat leads you to believe we think that is a small number?
Keep up the good work. Thank you for always posting very valuable information about this addiction. I’ve learned so much reading your articles since I found out my husband is addicted to pornography and sexual lusts two years ago. Everything that you talk about is true. There were behavioral signs for more than 10 years but I didn’t know anything about his porn addiction until God saw it fit for me to know 2 yrs ago. I’m still brokenhearted because he doesn’t want counseling and he doesn’t want computer accountability. He believes he is strong enough to stay from these temptations and that I should just trust him. He destroyed his laptop after I found out perverted downloaded porn he was watching. It has been a yr and a half that he acquired another laptop computer for school. I begged him to install filter but he refused, the 2nd time I asked him to install accountability software he refused, the 3rd and last time I expressed to him how his refusal to be accountable in his Internet use despairs my heart. He replied that I will be forever in despair because he will never allow filtering and accountability in his computer. It’s only by God’s grace that we get to celebrate 3 wedding anniversaries since the discovery of his addiction, 29 yrs last month. I’m still crying like I did this morning, some days are good and some days are not so good. It is exhausting. The hurt penetrates deep down to the soul just the thought of being not good enough to fulfill his sexual pleasure, that his desires are to other women other his own wife, the mother of his two beautiful grown children who now have families of their own. I ask God to strengthen me everyday and to stay faithful to my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. I have been praying for my husband’s deliverance and for healing. Right now, I am waiting on the Lord.
Hey there. I am so sorry for the pain you’re experiencing in your marriage. I’m so sorry that your husband is unwilling to filter his internet or have any accountability. It sounds to me like he’s not able to be trustworthy under those circumstances.
I want to encourage you that YOU can be healthy, even if your husband chooses not to be. YOU can go to counseling, even if he doesn’t. YOU can find your worth and value in God, even if he doesn’t. YOU can find the strength to go forward in peace, even if he can’t.
AND–you don’t have to do that alone! In fact, I think you’ll be much more likely to be healthy and strong if you seek support just FOR YOU. I’d say look for a counselor in your area who can listen and walk with you in this.
