Pleasuring Ourselves to Death

How Porn Harms Us

A month ago a standing-room-only crowd attended a briefing on Capitol Hill to listen to several researchers summarize their findings about how pornography harms men, women, children, and culture.

Below is a portion of that briefing, featuring Mary Anne Layden, Ph.D. (Please note: this video contains mature subject matter.)

Layden is a well-known sex addiction researcher and anti-pornography advocate. In 2004 she appeared before a Senate subcommittee for the “Hearing on the Brain Science Behind Pornography Addiction and the Effects of Addiction on Family and Communities.”

Layden comments here that the term “Hypersexual Disorder” is going to appear in the new diagnostic literature for mental health specialists.

If you want to learn more about the harms of pornography, you can watch more from this briefing on YouTube. Please note, however, the video material from this briefing contains very explicit subject matter and some strong language.

  1. I have sued to stop display of my nudes and figurenude art against Google Inc. Microsoft Corporation stopped when asked and Yahoo Inc did as well for name searches. Google has refused for almost two years.

It has been simple to stop wire communications of pornography for decades but not been done. It protects Free Speech and yet makes the Internet as safe for kids as television.

Exhibit A is the two pages of law that ends pornography by wire and balances the budget.

  2. Nichole

While I agree that porn corrupts the mind, we can’t out law it. People do have free choice. Even the Bible says that.

I am glad that hypersexual d/o will become a part of the DSM.

We must educate our children as they get older that pornography is not normal.

  3. J

I guess that video about sums it up.

Unfortunately, this fight will fall on the deaf ears of Congress and the Supreme Court. In light of everything that was listed in the video that we know are facts about how destructive porn is, Congress and the courts will continue to allow it to be produced and disseminated freely. This one is a train without brakes. That said, I doubt any of Congress or the folks that could pass laws to destroy porn and create organizations to enforce the law care one iota about porn and this country.
