Even though I’m recently remarried (I have a 13-year-old daughter and three new stepkids, 8, 10, and 11) I still belong to a group for Catholic single moms called Talitha Koum here in the Wichita, KS Diocese. A friend of mine from high school started this group shortly after I divorced (great timing for me!) in 2004. Our group leader was never married (until a few years ago) but started the group because she felt called by God to do so. She’s done a great job over the years to really challenge us as not only mothers, but as Catholic women. We’ve become an incredible group for accountability. I truly believe, despite so many different situations that we and our children are in, that our children are going to beat the statistics regarding children from single parent homes…….all because of this group. We’ve definitely discovered that even without fathers in the home, on another home or maybe not around at all, that God will fill in our gaps by His grace. He will not let our children get lost. None of us intended to raise children by ourselves but we’ve not just sat back and given up. We’ve learned to step up, seek out resources, and fight for the needs of our children when need be. It’s not how we wanted it to be, but there’s no reason why we can’t raise happy, healthy, Catholic children who can grow to be beacons of light in this world, spreading the Gospel….using words when necessary. :)
If I were to win one of these bundles I would share them with single Catholic moms. Married couples have an uphill battle on their hands when it comes to technology, in the home and simply out in society. Single parents have an even bigger hill. We may not have another adult to back up our decisions in the home, or we’re battling what’s allowed in one house, though it may not be allowed in ours. It’s a battle for everyone. Our kids are worth this fight. Technology is not intrinsically evil but it’s definitely a resource in which caution and discretion MUST be used for the sake of ours. What our eyes do not see our hearts do not feel.
I’ve seen Covenant Eyes at the Midwest Catholic Family Conferences and heard about it on Christian radio stations. I’ve wanted it in my home and in the homes of other moms for quite some time. I would love the opportunity to share this resource with other parents and be able to utilize it for the safety of my children here at home.
Pick me! Pick me! Please! :)
I would keep one for my immediate family and loan it out to extended family. I would donate one to two schools my children attend for the family libraries. I would give them to local homeschool coops for their family libraries.
I would use these resources for the dad’s of the youth group I an in charge of. Many of the youth in our youth group talk about how porn has affected their families lives. I would share it with every dad once a month did review.
First I would give two of them to my
sons. One is 24 and the other 22 and just recently married with a little girl. Then I would save one for when my daughter starts dating to they can watch it. The rest I would give to my boss Fr. Mark for the youth ministry program. I continue to try and teach my sons how dangerous porn is to themselves and any woman they are involved in especially how it cheep ins a relationship. And I would want anyone who dates my daughter to understand her worth to her Heavenly Father and myself. Thank you for all you do.
I would offer them to our pastor to give out. It would be very timely, since many people are going to confession during Lent.
Please
I lead Pure Desires groups for my church, and I think these would be an excellent coffee table discussions for the one-on-ones that happen. Each book would present a different perspective depending on the individuals life circumstances, and I know that it would better prepare me for situations that I’m unable to relate based on my own experiences with sexual addiction and porn recovery.
Pornography steals souls away from young and old , men and women. We need to fight back
I work as a Youth Minister at a Catholic church in the Los Angeles area. In my work with junior high and high school students and young adults, the battle against pornography is real. The Church and families know this epidemic exists but it’s a topic that’s not always openly or easily discussed. These resources would be a blessing to my ministry as I could share them with many young people who are hungry for the truth!
I have the privilege of teaching TOB to both 8th graders and high school sophomores. We are also bringing it to adults in our parish. I always have a “supply” of resources to share with others whenever the Holy Spirit cracks the door for me to share this message. Whether it is a family member, student, or anyone who crosses my path, I would share these materials when that opportunity would arise. I also would use them to educate myself! I can’t get enough! :)
