Christian Musicians Speak Out to Those Tempted By Porn

Last Updated: March 26, 2024

It seems pornography is affecting every sector of the church, so much so that Christian musicians have begun to speak out (and write songs) about their own struggles.

Music has a way of speaking the way words cannot, so I have compiled a list of 10 songs that give a voice to this temptation. I hope the music blesses you.

“Undo” by Rush of Fools

Lust has a way of clinging to us and wounding us deeply. This song is a prayer, confessing to God that He is the only one who can undo what we have become. The band Rush of Fools has recently been proactively speaking out about the issue of pornography by promoting Freedom Begins Here, a study that helps those trapped in the sin of habitually viewing porn.- – – –

“Fanmail” by KJ-52

This video from KJ-52 (otherwise known as Tweezy) portrays some of the sad letters he receives from his fans. One such letter speaks candidly about the grip of Internet porn addiction.

“Slow Fade” by Casting Crowns

Casting Crowns‘ song “Slow Fade” is about the gradual movement from one sin to another. We don’t become porn addicts overnight: it’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings. Last spring, Casting Crowns brought the ministry of Covenant Eyes along with them during their Altar and the Door tour in order to help people find accountability with their Internet use.

“Let it Go” by Kirk Franklin

Kirk Franklin has set new standards in the Christian music industry. His testimony as a recovering porn addict made headlines when he appeared on Oprah to talk about it. This song, “Let it Go,” talks about many brutal realities of Franklin’s upbringing, including his story about how porn and sex became a refuge for him. “Ms. December, you remember, I bought you twice. Now I’m thirty plus and still paying the price. . . . Sex was how I made it through: without someone to teach you love what else is there to do?

“Dirty Little Secret” by Pillar

In an interview with Christianity Today, Rob Beckley from Pillar spoke about how Internet pornography was a real problem for him in the past. He spoke about how accountability software has really helped him and how he is on a campaign to help his fans find the same freedom. The song, “Dirty Little Secret,” is all about the secrecy of Internet porn.

“Never Shake His Hand” from Somebody’s Daughter

Music for the Soul released an album in 2005 called Somebody’s Daughter: Confronting the Lies of Pornography. The album was met with such an overwhelming response that they decided to make a DVD documentary and a series of music videos to go along with it. “Never Shake His Hand,” is the opening track of the album, a musical warning to those tempted by pornography: don’t shake the hand of the devil.

“Constance” by Mr. J Mederios

Mr. J Mederios talks about his album, Of Gods and Girls: “Most of the album is about what we (I) make gods out of, the ideas men have about women, and how these two concepts interact in both a dangerous and beautiful way.” His song, “Constance,” is a startling picture of the depravity of Internet porn.

“Surreptitious Descent” by White Collar Sideshow

White Collar Sideshow is a more like a traveling road show than a band, but their main message is about fighting Internet porn addiction and pursuing a life of integrity, accountability, and honesty. This video, “Surreptitious Descent,” is highly symbolic and uses clips from the 1920 silent film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

“Losing Ground” by Topher Teague

Topher Teague was asked to add his music to the mix of the Somebody’s Daughter DVD project. His words are a reminder of how hard it is to maintain purity in an overly sexualized world.

“Before and After” by Jimmy Needham

Jimmy Needham recently shared his testimony about his former porn addiction on the Covenant Eyes blog. His song “Before and After” is a celebration of the vision God gave him that started him on the road to freedom.

  1. Can this be made into a Spotify playlist? It’s about 10 years later and I’m seeing this post and it’s blowing my mind. I had no idea that there was so much music like this already out there and it would be a blessing to have this music all in one place.

  2. jonah nebe

this is just what we need here in nigeria to encourage the youths and adults in our christian fight against porn.i wish we could get personalised messages directed at nigerian youths by one of the more known gospel artistes, both written and video,it will go a long way to help!
please get back to me on the possibility of such.
